Clinging Lilac

Flower type: Biennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 2.0 feet (61 cm) tall. Its pale purple stem is very thin and straight with a curved tip, and the small, yellow leaves are thin with wavy edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Two medium-sized flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 46 cm (18.1 inches) wide, with petals that are aquamarine on the underside and lilac on the top. The flower head is largely flat with many raised narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like honeysuckle, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.

It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
Several parts of the shrub have medicinal properties.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
