Copper Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 19 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, light brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow.

The tangled mess of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of giant, needle-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid copper with washed-out yellow edges.

In early spring, it produces a handful of large, light grey blossoms with perforated petals. They detach easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like fish.

In late summer it produces tiny, cuboid fruit. The rubbery silver skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy violet flesh is sour and powdery. The silver seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
