Caramel Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 45 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a flexible, wavy trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, light gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is pine-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small bunches of miniature, wide leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are cream on the edges and amber at the center.

In early spring, it produces dozens of tiny, caramel blossoms with 7 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like vomit.

In early winter it produces tiny, spherical fruit. The leathery gold skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is bitter and sour, and the very soft olive flesh is extremely sour and dry. The vibrant green seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
