Bloodfruit Tree

This massive fruit tree grows up to 68 feet (20.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 28 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in thin, rough, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is white.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of small, very thin leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are red and blood red.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of small, magenta blossoms with 2 flame-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like fruity.

In early summer it produces tiny, broad, flat fruit. The clammy white skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is salty, and the soft dark brown flesh is sweet and sticky. The vibrant green seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
