Amber Starflower

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.4 feet (43 cm) tall. Its green stem is thick, and the tiny, dark brown and bright orange leaves are thin with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Dozens of small flowers grow in drooping bunches like grapes. The flowers are 8 cm (3.1 inches) wide, with petals that are generally amber; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is shaped like a star made up of 7 tightly layered, narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like rainy days, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
