Caramelvine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Evergreen - keeps its leaves all year round)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 21 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many long and flexible, slanted stems covered in cracked, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is pale brown-grey.

The branches are very long and thin with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, oblong, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are caramel and hazel, robust and covered in fine hairs.

It produces a handful of medium-sized, slate flowers with kidney-shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a soft scent that smells like rotten egg. In early summer it forms tinybright orange, winged seeds that float and land far away.

It is suitable for making strong rope
Several parts of the vine have medicinal properties.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
