Blackwood

Tree type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 60 meters (196.9 feet) tall and lives for over 3,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 3591 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a very thick, crooked trunk covered in very thick, rough, dark brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black.

The small bunches of branches are tall, rigid and upright, with thousands of twigs covered with small bunches of small, lime green needles. The needles themselves are frail.

In late summer it produces tiny, green, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
