Bloodberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big fruit tree grows up to 44 feet (13.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, curved trunk covered in fine, waxy, gray bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow-brown.

The tangled mess of branches are very short and thin and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, perforated leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in dark brown and copper varieties.

In early spring, it produces several large, bronze blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like a damp log.

In mid-summer it produces , long, curved fruit. The waxy brown skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy blood red flesh is sweet and juicy. The blood red seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
