Copperleaf

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 40 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many narrow, straight stems covered in very thick, wrinkled, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are short and thin that and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, thick, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are gray with vivid red tips, strong and fuzzy.

In mid-summer it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, silver blossoms with 8 cylindrical shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like lavender.

In early winter small long, tapering fruits ripen. The waxy olive skin is delicate and bitter and sour, and the very soft white flesh is sweet and oily. The dark brown seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
