Blackwood

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 33 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has many knobbly, wonky stems covered in delicate, smooth, black bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright that and are covered with very large amounts of large, very thin, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of green that gradient shifts to lime at the top, sturdy and waxy.

In early spring it produces handfuls of tiny, gold flowers with 8 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like rotten egg.

All of it is said to be part of one single, massive plant.
