Copperleaf

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 113 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has numerous sturdy, straight stems covered in thin, cracked, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches are long and slender that and are covered with small amounts of miniature, needle-like, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are copper at the bottom and dark brown with intense red zig-zags at the top, rigid and leathery.

It produces large amounts of medium-sized, yellow flowers with 9 flame-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like cotton. In late summer it forms medium-sizedlight grey seed pods.

It is suitable for making paper
