Azurefruit Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 21 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in thin, cracked, dark brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is burgundy.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with large amounts of small, pleated leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in slate and ashy yellow varieties.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, light brown blossoms with finger-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like mint.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, broad, flat fruit. The leathery azure skin is thick and inedible, and the crunchy azure flesh is spicy and very dry. The black seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
