Azure Spikeleaf
Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)This short leaf succulent grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall. The very narrow, elongated stem is azure, and is covered in hundreds of rigid cream spines. The toothed-edged, spear shaped leaves are found in slate and gentle green varieties. Sparse amounts of them grow from the base in alternating pairs. The leaves are strong, and detach easily.
It is steady-growing, taking 2 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with petals that are generally turquoise; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour grow at the top, reappearing after 2 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 11 petals in raised layers. It has a delicate scent that smells like lemon.
The leaf succulent's skin is very thick, the faded yellow flesh is soft, and the orange sap is thin.
It is often home to a particular bird species.
