Crimson Petal

Flower type: Perennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.9 feet (58 cm) tall. Its green stems grow in bunches of 5 and are thin with a curved tip, and the large, red leaves are wide with jagged edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

Each stem splits 4 to 7 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with solid slate petals decorated with olive lines and a subtle yellow central disk. The flower head is largely flat with 42 tightly layered narrow petals. They are hardy.

It has a weak scent that smells like new carpet, and it has lots of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by some specific types of insect.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
