Crimson Starvine

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.8 feet (53 cm) tall. Its orange stems grow in bunches of 6 and are wispy with a curved tip, and the miniature, orange-yellow leaves are dark grey on the underside and are circular with serrated edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Each stem splits 3 to 8 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 25 cm (9.8 inches) wide, with crimson petals on the lower layer and caramel petals decorated with grey dots on the inner layer. The central disk is aquamarine. The flower head is shaped like a star made up of 9 raised, narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like rotten eggs, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
