Blueberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 81 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, twisting trunk covered in fine, knobbly, light gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The tangled mess of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of miniature, asymmetrical leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are found in olive, light grey and caramel varieties.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, amber blossoms with fan-like petals. They are sturdy and have no scent.

In mid-summer it produces , oval fruit. The fuzzy blue skin is thick and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the crunchy magenta flesh is savoury and sticky. The vivid red seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
The bark, wood and leaves are edible.
It has impressive regenerative properties.
