Turquoise Dishflower

This small flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its yellow stem is very thick, and the giant, moss green leaves are wide with toothed edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Each stem splits 3 to 6 times; a single tiny flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 8 cm (3.1 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of turquoise. The flower head is shaped like a dish with 32 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has a powerful scent that smells like mint, and it has copious amounts of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also particularly attractive to bees.
