Bloodfire Lily

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (41 cm) tall. Its peach stems grow in bunches of 3 and are very thin and straight, and the giant, blood red or purple leaves are broad, flat with ripped edges. The leaves alternate on the stem.

Two giant flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 20 cm (7.9 inches) wide, with solid red petals and a gold central disk. The flower head is shaped like a cup made up of 15 tightly layered, narrow petals. They are hardy.

It has the faintest scent that smells like candle wax, and it has excessive amounts of pollen. It is a self-pollinator and is ignored by most insect species.

The sap is black.
