Silverberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows and flowers repeatedly for more than two years)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 63 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, crooked trunk covered in delicate, smooth, silver bark, and inside, the light wood is gray.

The small bunches of branches are very long and thin and are covered with handfuls of large, pleated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are amber and white.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, ashy purple blossoms with spear shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like varnish.

In mid-summer it produces very large, long, curved fruit. The rough purple skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the very soft purple flesh is spicy and savoury and dry. The lime seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
