Coniara

This average-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 24 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has numerous flexible, slanted stems covered in hard, waxy, gray bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches are short stubs with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of small, wide, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are dull yellow and indigo, light and covered in fine hairs.

In mid-summer it produces large amounts of medium-sized, dull yellow blossoms with kidney-shaped petals. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In late winter large long, straight fruits ripen. The crispy brilliant orange skin is thick and very bitter, and the slightly crunchy bronze flesh is salty and sticky. The silver seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.
