Caramel Cube Flower

Flower type: Perennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This large flower grows up to 3.5 feet (1.1 meters) tall. Its orange stem is wispy and splits into dozens of branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the large, gray-green leaves are very thick with rounded edges. The leaves grow from the base and are the same length as the stem.

Two giant flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 9 cm (3.5 inches) wide, with petals that are olive in the center, green in the middle and caramel at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a cube with 32 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They are very delicate.

It has an intense scent that smells like new carpet, and it has excessive amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.

It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
