Crimson Water Lily

This small flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its orange stems grow in bunches of 3 and are thick with a curved tip, and the large, red leaves are spear shaped with irregular edges. 18 leaves grow at the base of the stem.

Two large flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 5 cm (2.0 inches) wide, with petals that are light grey at the sides and crimson at the center. The flower head is made up of several petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. They are sturdy.

It has a faint scent that smells like cinnamon, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also particularly attractive to insects.
