Blackfruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 26 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, wonky trunk covered in delicate, cracked, black bark, and inside, the light wood is dark brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of small, 2 pointed leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are gray with black tips.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, dark yellow blossoms with many layers of petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like vomit.

In early autumn it produces , oval fruit. The fuzzy brown skin is peel-able and edible when roasted; it is salty, and the soft cyan flesh is sour and savoury and powdery. The muted green seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
