Spiny Orange

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This short leaf succulent grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall. The pleated stem is gentle green, and is covered in thick sheets of flexible vibrant orange spines. The smooth-edged, asymmetrical leaves are found in peach and cyan varieties. Very large amounts of them grow from the base in alternating layers of 2, then 4, then 6, and so on. The leaves are durable, but easily come away when pulled.

It is steady-growing, taking 2 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with each petal a slightly different shade of hazel grows at the top, reappearing after 4 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is largely flat with many tightly layered round-tipped petals. It has an intense scent that smells like blood.

The leaf succulent's skin is extremely thick, the crimson flesh is soft, and the sky blue sap is thin.

It is overwhelmingly resistant to fire damage.
