Violet Succulent

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This small cactus grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall. It splits randomly along the body to form 6 tapering stems. Each stem is lime green, and is covered in handfuls of rigid brown spines.

It is quick growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with solid deep blue petals and a violet central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 7 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 51 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. It has an overpowering scent that smells like misty mornings.

The cactus's skin is thick, the violet flesh is rough, and the red sap is thin and causes severe cramps if consumed.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It is frequently struck by lightning.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
