Flower type: Annual (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)This small flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its gray-green stem is thick, and the tiny, purple leaves are perforated with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
3 to 6 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with solid bronze petals decorated with brown lines and a white central disk. The flower head is made up of 50 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight tube. They are hardy.
It has a faint scent that smells like bleach, and it has copious amounts of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also particularly attractive to butterflies.
