Caramelberry
Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This huge fruit tree grows up to 71 feet (21.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a slender, wonky trunk covered in hard, rough, silver and white bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown.
The numerous branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with handfuls of miniature, circular leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are hazel on the sides and caramel at the center.
In early spring, it produces thousands of medium-sized, yellow blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like mint.
In early summer it produces tiny, V-shaped fruit. The soft blood red skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is salty, and the very soft hazel flesh is bitter and syrupy. The lime seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.
The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
The leaves are high in natural sugars.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
