Caramel

This big shrub grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 115 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many flexible, crooked stems covered in fine, knobbly, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is burgundy-brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, asymmetrical, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are caramel on the edges and copper at the center, flimsy and soft.

In late summer it produces thousands of giant, azure blossoms with 3 oval-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like rotten meat.

In midwinter oblong fruits ripen. The soft pink skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft beige flesh is sour and dry. The white seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.
