In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, sky blue blossoms with circular petals. They are very delicate and have a faint scent that smells like marzipan.

In early autumn it produces , oblong fruit. The fuzzy cyan skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is sweet and salty, and the crunchy brown flesh is sweet and spicy and sticky. The brown seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.
