Copperfruit

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This giant fruit tree grows up to 65 feet (19.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 49 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, dark gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are very short and thin and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, fan-like leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are cream on the sides and copper at the center.

In early spring, it produces many balls of small, subtle red blossoms with asymmetrical petals. They are very delicate and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like freshly washed clothes.

In late autumn it produces , long, straight fruit. The waxy magenta skin is peel-able and edible when roasted; it is bitter and savoury, and the very soft cream flesh is savoury and very dry. The light grey seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It commonly grows in large patches.
