This short bine is a quick growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 22 feet (6.7 meters)0.

It takes 8 months for the green stems to mature, by which point they can reach a diameter of 1 cm (0.4 inches) and are rough and woody.

The very thin, crispy leaves reach up to 2 inches (5 cm) in length. They are purple and turquoise, and have smooth edges.
