Bloodvine

Flower type: Biennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This giant flower grows up to 12.0 feet (3.7 meters) tall. Its deep yellow or blood red stem is very thin and straight with a curved tip, and the giant, gray-green and cream leaves are finger-like with tattered edges. The leaves alternate on the stem.

Two giant flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 36 cm (14.2 inches) wide, with petals that are generally black; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 50 petals. They fall easily.

It has an intense scent that smells like blood, and it has very little pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but only one species in particular.

It can absorb up to 5 times its own weight in water.
