Burgundy Blossom

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in ridged, yellow bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The thick clumps of branches are very short and thin and are covered with small amounts of large, 6 pointed leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are either blood red or crimson, with turquoise lines.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, green blossoms with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like pineapple.

In mid-summer it produces , long, straight fruit. The clammy bright orange skin is thin and inedible, and the soft magenta flesh is sour and powdery. The yellow seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
