Bloodwood Pine

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 28 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous narrow, crooked stems covered in fine, ridged, brown bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are long and thick with dozens of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of giant, sickle shaped, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are deep yellow at the bottom and blood red with beige patches at the top, resilient and fuzzy.

It produces many balls of tiny, amber flowers with teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like warm cookies. In midwinter it forms tinyblood red aril (seeds with fleshy covers).
