Climbing Crimson Vine

This big vine is a steady-growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 370 feet (112.8 meters) and growing as high as 146 feet (44.5 meters).

It takes 13 months for the gray or blue stems to mature, by which point they often have a diameter of 1.1 feet (33 cm) and are rough and gnarled.

The pleated, covered in fine hairs leaves reach up to 2.3 feet (69 cm) in length. They are caramel at the bottom and dark brown with washed-out orange splotches at the top, and have rounded edges.

During late spring, the vine produces hundreds of large crimson flowers.
