Crimson Spearflower

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.5 feet (46 cm) tall. Its silver stem is thin and straight, and the miniature, moss green leaves are spear shaped with jagged edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

1 to 7 small flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with petals that are white on the edges and crimson at the center. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 25 curved petals. They are sturdy.

It has a delicate scent that smells like skunk spray, and it has lots of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
