Blood Red Petal

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.2 feet (36 cm) tall. Its olive and lime green stems grow in bunches of 7 and are thin and straight, and the huge, green leaves are pleated with ripped edges. The leaves alternate on the stem.

Several tiny flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 12 cm (4.7 inches) wide, with hazel petals and a blood red central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 50 curved petals. They are very delicate.

It has an intense scent that smells like grass cuttings, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also particularly attractive to insects.
