Copper

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This enormous shrub grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for around 56 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many sturdy, angular stems covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, silver and white bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches are very short, thin and wispy with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of small, thin, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are copper at the bottom and cyan with silver dots at the top, delicate and soft.

In early spring it produces lots of tiny, pink blossoms with finger-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a soft scent that smells like rotten meat.

In late winter large asymmetrical fruits ripen. The hairy pink skin is thin and salty, and the slightly crunchy caramel flesh is bitter and salty and sticky. The silver seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
