Mahogany

This big shrub grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 110 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many wide, straight stems covered in fine, wrinkled, mahogany-coloured bark, and the wood inside is pale brown-grey.

The branches are long and slender that and are covered with very large amounts of giant, sickle shaped, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are ashy orange and sky blue, tough and smooth.

In early summer it produces lots of tiny, turquoise blossoms with long, tapering petals. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like onion.

In mid-autumn spherical fruits ripen. The fuzzy violet skin is tough and sour, and the soft black flesh is savoury and oily. The blood red seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.
