Crimson Petal Bloom

This big flower grows up to 4.8 feet (1.5 meters) tall. Its yellow stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 8 and are thick and straight, and split into numerous branching stems at the top, and the large, burgundy leaves are long, narrow with tattered edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Two small flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 20 cm (7.9 inches) wide, with petals that are hazel on the edges and crimson at the center. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. They fall easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like old shoes, and it has very little pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
