Indigovine

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 11 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous stocky, straight stems covered in wrinkled, burgundy and brown bark, and the wood inside is burgundy-brown.

The branches are long, thin and wispy with dozens of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, fan-like, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are indigo on the edges and cream at the center, strong and waxy.

In mid-spring it produces handfuls of small, turquoise blossoms with 2 teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like perfume.

In early autumn tiny finger-like fruits ripen. The leathery yellow skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is bitter, and the soft crimson flesh is salty and dry. The bronze seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.
