Desert Lily

This modest-sized flower grows up to 11 inches (28 cm) tall. Its green stem is wispy and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, yellow-green leaves are fan-like with serrated edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Dozens of large flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 20 cm (7.9 inches) wide, with petals that are either aquamarine or orange, with a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a cup with 13 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has a soft scent that smells like vanilla, and it has an average amount of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by some specific types of insect.
