Clinging Vinefruit

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This large fruit tree grows up to 36 feet (11.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 76 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in very thick, wrinkled, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the light wood is burgundy.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of large, very narrow and elongated leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are generally purple.

In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, copper blossoms with perforated petals. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like alcohol.

In early summer it produces small, oval fruit. The fuzzy lilac skin is thick and inedible, and the crunchy violet flesh is bitter and powdery. The hazel seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
