Copperfern

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 84 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has many narrow, curved stems covered in knobbly, brown and grey bark, and the wood inside is silver.

The branches are short stubs that and are covered with copious amounts of giant, very narrow and elongated, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are solid blood red with florescent yellow edges, tough and soft.

In late spring it produces a handful of medium-sized, florescent yellow blossoms with wide petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like fresh linen.

In late autumn triangular fruits ripen. The smooth copper skin is peel-able and sweet and sour, and the crunchy black flesh is sweet and bitter and very juicy. The beige seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.
