Bloodvine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows the first year, flowers the second year, then dies)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 81 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of stocky, straight stems covered in silky, white with black speckled bark, and the wood inside is silver.

The branches are long and thick that and are covered with large amounts of tiny, circular, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are blood red and grey, delicate and waxy.

In early summer it produces thousands of small, bronze blossoms with needle-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like ashes.

In late autumn tiny long, narrow fruits ripen. The smooth orange skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy turquoise flesh is slightly sour and very juicy. The hazel seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
Once on fire, it burns very quickly.
