Blackpine

This average-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 165 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has dozens of wide, angular stems covered in wrinkled, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is black with white speckles.

The branches trail down to the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, asymmetrical, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either black, or amber with muted yellow lines, delicate and covered in fine hairs.

In early summer it produces balls of medium-sized, cream blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like fresh linen.

In midwinter tiny circular fruits ripen. The sticky crimson skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft amber flesh is sour and dry. The olive seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.
