Blood Red

This short caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The wispy stem is moss green, and is covered in brittle white spines. The twisting, slate trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter at the bottom. Its brown branches are tall, rigid and upright and start growing at the top the stem.

The copious amounts of irregular-edged, perforated leaves are found in blood red, dark grey and yellow varieties. They are robust, but take some effort to detach.

It is very slow growing, taking 13 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with solid sky blue petals decorated with lilac lines and a light purple central disk grows at the top, reappearing once every 4 years. The flower head is shaped like a cube made up of 7 widely spaced, narrow petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

The caudiciform's skin is tough, the light purple flesh is sticky, and the brown sap is thin.
