Bloodvine

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large flower grows up to 3.2 feet (97 cm) tall. Its slate and olive stems grow in bunches of 4 and are wispy and straight, and the giant, yellow-green leaves are spear shaped with tattered edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Several tiny flowers grow in drooping bunches like grapes. The flowers are 17 cm (6.7 inches) wide, with blood red petals and a lime central disk. The flower head is made up of 16 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight cup. They fall easily.

It has a strong scent that smells like skunk spray, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to a specific species.
