Indigo
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This big shrub grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for around 77 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has numerous very thick, crooked stems covered in thin, knobbly, yellow bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.
The branches trail down to the ground that and are covered with handfuls of giant, very narrow and elongated, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are solid pink or indigo, with turquoise lines, resilient and clammy.
In late summer it produces large amounts of large, cream blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an intense scent that smells like old shoes.
In early winter tiny astroid-shaped fruits ripen. The fuzzy green skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy black flesh is sour and sticky. The silver seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.
