Copperfruit

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 36 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a flexible, crooked trunk covered in rough, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the light wood is light brown.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with small bunches of giant, long, narrow leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid green with lime streaks.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, peach blossoms with fan-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

In late summer it produces small, slender, 5 pointed fruit. The waxy pastel green skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the soft white flesh is sweet and powdery. The white seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for making paper
